Welcome to a new school year at St. James Catholic School. I am Mme Wilson and I am so excited to be your child’s French teacher this year!  I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you and your children and I look forward to meeting all of you that I have yet to meet! This year I am teaching Mrs. Lewis' grade 3's and Mrs. Vp's grade 3/4`s. I will also be doing some Prep&Planning in Kindergarten and in Grade5Imm & 6Imm (gym&health).

A little bit about me... For as a long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a teacher!
Like most of our students, I learned french as a second language. I was in the immersion program from kindergarten-grade 12 and continued learning french in university. I began my journey as an Early Childhood Education after graduating from Algonquin College. Upon graduation, I transferred to Carleton University and enrolled in the Child Studies program before completing my Bachelor of Education at OttawaU. I learned so much over the years and can`t wait to share my learning with the students.

My teaching approach...
I believe it is so important for children to take risks when learning a second language. Right from the beginning of the year, my goal is to make learning french
fun and engaging for all of our learners. When walking into the classroom, you would hear students engaged in discussions and you would see me supporting the students, as well as, learning alongside them.

The Main Goals of the French Program  are to:
  • Deepen the knowledge of students’ existing French vocabulary
  • Provide students with experiences to develop their oral and listening skills in order to communicate their ideas in French to the best of their ability
  • Provide students with the basic skills and strategies to read and comprehend grade appropriate texts and demonstrate understanding through oral and brief written responses
  • Develop and strengthen their second-language literacy skills
  • Give students many opportunities to familiarize themselves with the written language to produce short pieces of writing, using familiar forms.
